The Risk Manager works directly with all levels of the organization, including executive management and is responsible for the administration of the company’s business insurance programs.

Responsibilities include directing the purchase of insurance programs, management of claims and loss control activities, management of relationships with third party service providers including brokers, insurers and other TPAs, preparing loss analyses and budgets, identifying exposures, recommending solutions, implementing approved programs, promoting loss prevention, updating and monitoring compliance with insurance procedures.

Mitigates the organization's exposure to risk by formulating, developing, and coordinating all claims-related activities, as well as resolving bona fide claims at the least possible cost through various risk transfer techniques. Directs a program to ensure the proper and efficient handling of claims, gathering data on claims for both record keeping and loss forecasting purposes, and estimating the financial value of claims.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to identify areas of risk within the organization and ways to mitigate those risks
  • Oversee the placement of the Company’s insurance programs including, but not limited to, Professional Liabilities, Property and Casualty, and Executive Risk insurance
  • Oversee the management of claims working with various Company personnel and claims adjustors to effectively manage claims and reduce Company costs and risk
  • Ability to evaluate claim settlements and rationalize cost benefit impact to the Company
  • Maintaining Company relationships with brokers, underwriters, and various insurance personnel
  • Understanding of accrual accounting concepts related to insurance and understand actuarial reports
  • Complete monthly reporting of Company insurance results
  • Travel required on an as needed basis (<10% travel anticipated)
  • Coordinate reporting requirements for Company’s annual insurance renewals, support actuarial process, claims review process, and insurance audits, among other various requirements
  • Work closely and interact with various stakeholders, including but not limited to Operations, Accounting, Human Resources, Legal, and Executive Management
  • Oversee Company’s Certificate of Insurance monitoring programs
  • Works closely with insurance carriers and internal personnel
  • Acting as Company representative during mediations and /or depositions
  • Oversees litigated and moderately complex claims and is entrusted with settlement authority
  • Maintain a sound understanding of Company policies and procedures in addition to general employment practice issues
  • Ability to understand contracts to identify Company exposures to risk and recommend changes to shield company from undue risk

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience in Insurance and Risk Management
  • Strong Microsoft Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint) skills
  • Significant knowledge of insurance markets, contracts, policy terms and conditions and statutory laws
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

Preferred Experience & Qualifications:

  • Experience in a manufacturing setting preferred
  • Can effectively influence as appropriate in interactions with various levels of management
  • Has strong leadership and project management skills with the ability to drive a project through implementation
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Designations such as CPCU, ARM, CIC, or CRM a plus
